The Forest

My town has the most haunted forest in the world, legend has it that a family built a house in the forest centuries ago. We call them “the originals”, They tended to the forests every need. It was a paradise, but it became corrupted by other families with bad intentions. They chopped down trees to build big elaborate houses and sell land. With all the other families ruining the forest it became difficult for the originals to maintain the beauty of the forest on their own, so they sought out  help from their neighbors. But they were possessed by greed and they wanted more people to come and buy the land. The originals claimed the land as their own, in hope that it would end the anarchy. But the neighbors were enraged and destroyed the house and the Originals disappeared. Each night more families disappeared and everything they owned was destroyed.
My town was built just outside of the forest. The townspeople passed on the story and warned others to stay away from the forest, but the story changed from a warning to an old wives tale to scare kids, but some people still believed that the story was true. My friends and I decided to pay a visit to this “haunted forest” to prove that the forest was not haunted. We placed bets before entering on whether the forest was actually haunted or not. We walked into the forest and wandered around, the deeper I walked into the forest the more cold, sour, and foggy the air became. I walked further until I saw an old house appear out of the fog. I felt goosebumps run up my body and I froze, there was an abandoned house in front of me, it looked just like how the houses were described in the story. My chest felt tight as if I were being strangled by a snake. I looked down and I saw a root coiling around me, and it dragged me into the abandoned house. I saw a figure approach me, I thought it was someone trying to prank me, but when they got closer I realized that it was a ghost. The ghost reached its hand into my chest and I felt an immense amount of pain, it felt like I was burning alive and all I could do  was watch. The ghost ripped it’s hand back and I fell unconscious. But when I regained consciousness I saw my body slowly rise from the ground, brush itself off and stare at me with an evil smile and crazed eyes. It looked around and muttered “I'm finally free”. My possesed body turned away and almost glided through the forest back to my town without me. My soul remained tethered to the abandoned house for years, I was losing hope of ever being free, until I heard the mumble of children in the forest.
