The Rabbit

The rabbit's quick feet tried to escape the sharp claws of the montorous sky creature. It did not succeed, and the creature chewed the meat slowly with 5 satisfying crunches, the bones shattering and seasoning the meal for added flavor. Finally, the rabbit was fully engulfed and traveling down the creature's long neck. But the animal's carcass was too big. The creature's expansive neck began to bulge and grow until it couldn't stand it anymore. The flesh bursted and fell onto the concrete of a sidewalk next to some small suburban homes. Then, little by little, the broken skin of the creature began to inch its way back to the mother body, reattaching to it’s bloody flesh. The creature continued its journey leaving the rabbit’s mangled body on the ground.
The air felt cold to Casey, even in the house. She checks the thermometer next to the closet, which reads 76 degrees. Casey peers through the small slits in the closet but it’s too dark. Putting her hand on the doorknob, it reflects the world around her in a spherical and golden light. Just as she begins to turn the knob, she hears a knock at the door. She assumes her brother will answer it, but then remembers that the house is quiet with the presence of only one person’s feet marching across the cold wooden floors. She pauses and inhales the silence drifting around her. The person at the door knocks again, this time more agitated. Casey reluctantly steps forward to the door. Just as quickly as the silence began, it ended with the piercing sound of glass shattering towards the back of the house. Her first instinct is to run out the front door, which is now wide open. No one stood before her and the only thing in sight was the view of a mangled rabbit painting the sidewalk with it’s blood. Casey has now waited too long, and she could feel the hot breath of the creature behind her.
